Hi guys! Comin at ya with a good Blitz today! Courtesy of Xpresso Tours. I truly hope everyone has had a wonderful 4th celebration, for those of us living in the States. Gotta say it though, I did not love those illegal fireworks all night long right outside our bedroom windows. My toddler disliked it equally as much. I’m all for a grand show of beautiful lights sparkling through the night sky, followed by ferocious bangs you can feel reverberate in your chest. Outside, like at a fair ground. Not in our home! (huge eye roll) I guess I’ll just never understand the need to set them off in a neighbor hood full of sleeping families.CONTINUE READING

I’ve been hiding from the Guild since I was born. If they knew about my magic, they would kill me in a heartbeat. I should be avoiding them, but instead, I enter the Guild as a regular human recruit.
Papa went missing after a mission, and I need answers. I realize I might have bitten off more than I can chew when my new instructor is the guy I kissed a few months before. It doesn’t seem like Cade recognizes me without my disguise, but if he does and blows the whistle, I’m as good as dead and so is Papa.
Where, where do I start!?
Right away the reader is thrown into the story. There was very little background and build up but hey, this was a bit on the shorter side. That in no way hindered the experience. In fact it was kind of nice not spending an immense amount of time waiting for the story to start.
The book’s pace was fast moving. A lot of this takes place inside the Guilds training facility. Which felt very Hunger Games meets Harry Potter -esque to me. Not only do the initiates undergo tests for their fighting skills, they are also tested on knowledge and even take classes. One such class was Poisons, something that kept making me think of Potions or Herbology. Though not in a dark dungeon or greenhouse.
The myriad of characters that Vernon has created in her story truly brings this fantasy adventure to life. Our protagonist makes a variety of friends who’s personalities vary from snarky and sassy (Sofia), hot and muscular (every guy she meets), to pretty and polished (Brielle). Along with some enemies. The reader gets to spend a great amount of time getting to know these characters, as most of the story takes place from within the Guilds HQ. So there was no feeling of disconnect due to the lack of build up in the beginning.
While Lenna’s character may at first sound like a typical heroine, she has more depth than expected. She’s patient, biding the right time to make her moves. She’s incredibly rational, making little to no mistakes due to over emotional stress. This was a huge refreshment in a world where female protagonists often let their emotions guide their decisions. Then you have your basics, strength in body and abilities galore! Lenna has a diverse number of abilities which she uses to her advantage.
For a while it’s hard to tell where the romance is coming from. As I mentioned there are a couple of male’s in this book. Each one with a certain soft spot for our protagonist. About halfway through the book we finally get a look at who will take on the role of lead male. Now, it’s not what you would call a subtle connection. However it wasn’t exactly instalove either.
Suffice it to say it’s a good thing this is only the first book, because at the end you’re definitely left wanting for more. There’s no way you can read this book and not wonder what Vernon is going to bring us next. Here’s to hoping the wait isn’t long!
I couldn’t give this a full five star rating and here’s why. There is way too much sexual tension that seems to come out of nowhere. It’s like, Leena sees a guy and Bam! Somehow he’s automatically super sexy with huge muscles and now she’s having dirty thoughts. Also they all seem to want her.
For me that was just very impractical. Sexual tension in books is great! But it happened almost every time she saw a guy.
I would definitely recommend this book! To lovers of Fantasy, Action, and Adventure. Not to mention the huge Paranormal element.

It’s hump day! Hope everyone is have a great week so far. It looks like a lot of places will be closing back up so stay safe!
What I’m Reading:
Not too much going on this week. As you can guess I’m still primarily reading what I picked up last Wednesday. However this week I’ve also picked up a new ARC. Getting ready for the blog tour. It’s a bit of a short read but I’m thoroughly enjoying it this far. Something tells me I’ll be wishing there was more to read!
What I’m Watching:
This show has been out for a while. I started watching it when they were about halfway through airing season 1. It is very addictive. What I like to do, and maybe I’m crazy, is wait for several episodes to come out and then binge watch it on Hulu. This way there is the satisfaction of watching one right after the other all day long!
If you’ve never heard of this I highly recommend looking into it. If you like drama, conspiratorial plots, love triangles (that turn into an interesting threesome) and oh yeah merpeople than this is definitely for you.
What I’m Listening To:
Currently my library has a couple of these available for loan. I’m hoping they get a few more in! I had to scoop this one as soon as saw it.
Have you read any of the Twisted Tale series? Don’t forget to let me know what you’ve picked up this week! Can’t wait to hear it! ❤
