Goodreads Monday

Wouldn’t you know it, I’ve never done a Goodreads Monday before! I’ve seen Danielle over at Books, Vertigo and Tea do this many times. Also I LOVE her blog. Thank you Danielle for this great idea. Honestly I love looking around and seeing what other people are reading so this is going to be a lot of fun 🙂

Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners. To participate, you simply choose a random book from your TBR and show it off. Don’t forget to check out her blog and link back to Lauren’s Page Turners and add your own links.

“A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.

Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.”

This book seems to have gotten some pretty good reviews, all averaging at least 4 stars. I’m really looking forward to reading this book!
Have you read Scythe? What are your (non-spoiler) thoughts? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Friday Funday!

I have a book haul for you today 🙂 it’s been quite a while since I did one of these. Other than my subscription to Owlcrate, I don’t normally go out and buy too many books. It’s actually been about three or four months since I splurged. Man does it feel good though when that package arrives at your front door. Am I right?
Recently BookOutlet had a great sale going on. Free shipping!!! So you can bet I sure took advantage of that. As much as I could without feeling guilty. Here’s what I got………..oh and have I mentioned that I’ve been in a huge contemporary mood lately?

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

For a long time now I’ve been wanting to read this. With the movie coming out in May what better opportunity? I’ve been told to keep a box of tissues near by for this one so I’m wondering what I’m getting myself into here.

Isla and The Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

Several months ago I got the second book to this trilogy, to which I still haven’t read (shame), so why not get the last one? The only thing is that I didn’t realize I had gotten the hardback of this 😦 the other two are paperback. Sooo I feel as though I have slight dilemma on my hands. They don’t match. This will actually bother me.

Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch

Ok ok I maaay have gotten this one because the cover has always caught my eye. It’s so cute! The blurb sounds good too though. It’s been a long time since I read a book that took me to Italy 😉

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

When We Collided by Emery Lord

Jackaby by William Ritter

Yes! Pretty happy about this. After watching Sherlock I’ve been wanting to read a Sherlock related book. Now I could just get the classic complete series or something easy like that but this seems a little bit more…….modern. Plus it seems to be a big hit. Can’t wait to start reading this one.

Because You’ll Never Meet Me by Leah Thomas

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

I keep seeing this series everywhere. On blogs, on youtube, on Goodreads and of course at the stores. There’s been a lot of good reviews going around about this series. It’s one of those books that catches your eye. Really looking forward to finding out what the hype is about here.

Detours, Do-Overs, and Dares Box set

Since You’ve Been Gone
Second Chance Summer
Amy & Rogers Epic Detour

All by Morgan Matson

I seriously feel like this was a steal. It’s three really good contemporaries for 8 bucks! I’ve picked up each and every one of these on my trips to B&N but have never purchased them, before now. Now I have all three!!!!

Ahhhh!!! So many promising books ❤ I honestly don’t know which one to read first. Each one of these has been on my list for such a long time that, I don’t know where to start! I’m also kind of just excited to have them and see them on my shelves. Silly I know.

Have you read any of these books? If so which one do you recommend get bumped up in the list? Let me know 😉

Popular YA Books I Secretly Don’t Want To Read

Hey guuuys! Long time no blog huh? Just wanted to give you a quick update on what I’ve been up to before I jump into the post.

A couple weeks ago I fostered some lost poodles, very cute and friendly ladies. It made me realize something, I really miss having a dog. Someone to be there when I get home, someone to go on walks with, someone to pet and cuddle. Someone to take care of So after the dogs were gone I decided to go to the shelter and just take a look.

What I saw was of course incredibly heart breaking. So many dogs, all needing someone to take them home and care for them and love them. One dog, with the saddest pair of dark brown eyes caught my attention. Where the other dogs barked at my intrusion he just stared at me, head down right where he way laying. Quiet yet intrigued. (At least that’s what his slight tail wagging told me.)

I did a meet and greet with him, to see if maybe we would be a good fit for each other. He was perfect. Friendly yet timid, trusting but cautious, playful but not overly hyper and he wasn’t a barker. He wasn’t even a jumper! I was in love. For two days I missed him and couldn’t stop picturing his face. So I did what any other person would do……….I went back and adopted him ❤

Today I’m the proud proud owner of a 3 year old very handsome black German Shepherd. He keeps me more than occupied on my days off and when I get home from work. I almost feel as though I’m constantly babysitting. My cat is so independent that she doesn’t need much. Somewhere down the line I obviously got used to that. It’s nice to be needed now. Anyway I’d like you all to meet…………

It’s only been about a week that we’ve had him so he’s still pretty skinny. I’m hoping to see that start to change very soon. Other than that he is a happy camper. With a huge backyard all to himself and two new parents to spoil him how he could he not be? I do feel bad thinking that someone somewhere must have been missing him. The shelter had him for a couple of weeks and said no one came to look for him. They put him on social media and checked for a chip but……nothing. I only wish his previous family, if he even had one, could know that he is being well looked after.

OK! Since it’s been a while I wanted to do something fun. I decided to do my own Top Ten today. Here’a list of some very popular books that I don’t really have an interest in reading. A lot of these books have gotten so much hype, so hopefully no one shames me for this.

  1. Six of Crows

  2. The Selection Series

  3. And I Darken

  4. Illuminae Files

  5. My Lady Jane

  6. Flawed Series

  7. Lady Midnight (I changed my mind and actually it doesn’t sound that interesting to me)

  8. This Savage Song

  9. The Raven Cycle

  10. Divergent Series

Ah, I can almost feel the collective gasps and sighs. I know I know, how do those not sound interesting??? I don’t know, they just don’t. Not to me.

Sometimes I look up these books and think “eh, I could give it a try.” Except that there are just so many other books I would rather be reading. I love that so many people have enjoyed these. I love reading the reviews. I can get by on just that. It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if someone told me all about these books, including spoilers. Because chances are I will never read them.

What about you guys? Are there any popular YA books that you secretly don’t want to read? Maybe there’s a book on this list that you actually really loved and think I should reconsider it. I’m all ears if you want to tell me how good it is 🙂 I might consider giving it a chance. A real chance.

My Dream Loot Crate

SO, good and bad news. Don’t worry the good far out weighs the bad.
I will not be doing a What Are You Reading Wednesday post today. Though I will quickly say that I am 90% done with Of Fire and Stars. So keep your eyes peeled for a review this Thursday or next. I also already have lined up the next book I’m going to read sent by a publisher and an audio book! Also sent to me for review 🙂 so that should be fun!

loot-crate-service-delivery-nerd-geek-cultureNow the good news 😉 I have been asked to join in a really fun project from Loot Crate. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this, Loot Crate is a monthly Geek/Gaming subscription box. Each month has a different theme and 4-6 fantastically fun items inside. They literally have a Loot Crate for everyone. The Anime fanatics, the Halo fanatics, the Wizarding fanatics 😉 even one for Pets! So check it out. It’s pretty awesome. I’m actually planning to subscribe to their Halo Crate for my boyfriend 🙂 it’s a surprise so shhhh!

Also I just want to let you guys know because I love you, that I am in no way being sponsored or doing any sponsoring for this post. I was just asked if it sounded like something I would be interested in so I said “hell ya!” Just you know, more professionally of course.

Currently they are running a project for fans to create their very own “Dream Crate.” If you had total and complete freedom to create your own Crate, what would it be? What would you put inside?
Want to know what I would put?……..

My Theme: Pieces of Magic

  1. Sailor Scout Transformation Pens ity-sailor-transformation-fatpack
Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts were a huge influence on me when I was growing up and I still have a very special place in my heart for them today. And of course I wanted desperately to be one when I grew up 🙂
In my Dream Crate I would have each one of the pens, from each season.
  2. Terriermon

Like, the actual Digimon. Starting from an egg of course. Season 3 was hands down their best season. Henry and Terriermon were my favorite pair. We would have the best adventures! (The sweatshirt is also acceptable I guess.)
  3. Hedwig and Dobby Moving Portraits

If Harry Potter can have moving pictures then by golly why can’t we!?
I cried when they died in the movies, I wept when they died in the books. I just want them back guys! Seriously these would be perfect to hang in my library ❤
  4. Vulpeus Keyblade
Kingdom Hearts is my FAVORITE game. I may or may not be satisfied with any Keyblade that would come in the box. This could be the one mystery item because there are so many keyblades. Although I do really really love this one.
  5. Ichigo’s Hollow Mask or Rukia’s Zanpakuto

This may surprise you all because it’s a little dark but if you’ve ever thought about watching anime I highly recommend Bleach. It’s a really really action packed. Ichigo’s mask like this (it changes later) is freakin bad ass. Rukia is my favorite character so of course I would love to have her zanpakuto. “Bankai!”

  6. Last but honestly the most important one, Oswald and Ortensia Funko Pops

Sadly it doesn’t look like there is an Ortensia Funko Pop, which is just a really big shame. I love Mickey and Minnie as much as the next Disney fanatic. BUT, I love Oswald and Ortensia so much more. When my boyfriend and I go to Disneyland we don’t get Mickey and Minnie ears 😉 we get Oswald and Ortensia ears! You see, they were the original Minnie and Mickey. Before they were stolen! 😦 Now they’re back at home in Disney World and Disneyland right where they belong

And that ladies and gentlemen is precisely what I would have in my Dream Look Crate. This was a lot of fun to put together. I put a lot of thought into what I wanted in here. I could have gone for socks, a throw blanket, more pops or some tea. Not that there is anything wrong with these, I love those items. It’s just, I had a hard time between choosing something realistic or something fanciful. With so much freedom I decided not to let it go to waste and throw in the impossible. So while I could definitely find realistic objects pertaining to these items I’d rather dream of having the truly magical ones.

What would you put in your crate? 😉

Top Ten Tuesday!

Woo Top Ten Tuesday! I don’t know about you guys but I love partaking in weekly meme’s 🙂 they are so much fun.
As you all know Top Ten Tuesday is hosted weekly by The Broke and The Bookish. Today’s topic, Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To (But TOTALLY plan to).

  1. A Court of Mist and Fury

Yes, I read ACOTAR. No, I did not pick up the sequal afterwards like I totally totally should have.
  2. Harry Potter and The Cursed Child

“But Miss Elizabeth, didn’t you get that for your birthday in October??” Why yes, yes I did. Woops! I don’t know guys. I’m still on the fence about this one. I’m a little afraid to read it.
  3. Stars Above

Also afraid to read this but only because I don’t want the series to finally be closed in my mind.
  4. Three Dark Crowns

Ohhhh I want to read this book!
  5. The Shadow Queen

I’ve been reading way too many books about Royals and courts and such. So I’m not sure when I’ll get to it, I just know that I will.
  6. Passenger

“But……don’t you have the book and the audio book?”…….*face palm*
  7. The Unexpected Everything

In my defense I only recently got this.
  8. What Light

I love Jay Ahser, and I really can’t wait to pick up this book.
  9. Love and Gelato

  10. A Study In Charlotte

I’ve seriously been wanting to read more books like Sherlock Holmes and I can not wait to start.

These are the books I had every intention of reading in 2016.  We all know that sometimes life happens and for whatever reason we can’t always find the time to sit down and read to our hearts content. Much as we would all love to.
What books were hoping to read but didn’t get to?

Got A Secret Can You Keep It?

Hey there stranger dangers! Long time no talk.
Happy Friday 😉 ALREADY the first week of the new year is done. How many of you have already started on those New Years resolutions? How many of you haven’t started? My hand is way up in the air right now. Although this time around I decided to make my resolutions very short and very realistic.

  • Save more………no really. SAVE MORE. I mean it this time.
  • Blog more, but only because you want to. Stop when it becomes an obligation, then come back.
  • Keep in better touch with family and give more time to your friends ❤ because they deserve it.
  • Drink less soda but more water.

y003o_s-200x150Typically my list of New Years Resolutions is sky high and full of nearly impossible things to complete in a year, let alone a lifetime. I’m very satisfied with my short list and feel as though it’s completely achievable. I feel infinitely better about this and totally pumped to get it all done by this time in 2018.

Aside from that there is something I really really wanted to share with you guys. So about three months ago I finally buckled down and subscribed  to Owlcrate. For those of you who don’t know Owlcrate is one of, if not the best book subscription boxes out there. Every month is themed something different and the box contains one newly released YA book along with cute nick knacks. These can range from a beanie, pins, a funko pop or even tea!

Now here’s the not so secret, secret. About a month ago I came across The Owlcrate Society Page on Facebook! 🙂 Best. Page. Ever. The “secret” is that it’s a closed group, so you have to ask or be invited to join. BUT it doesn’t even matter if you’re subscribed to the box, though I think it may be kind of preferred, you can totally join. All you need is an interest in books and vuala! Heck there are even people on here who talk about other book box subscriptions. I love this page. There are no spoilers about the boxes at all, though everyone joins together and voices ideas on what might be inside. Everyone is EXTREMELY friendly. If you’re looking for some book suggestions, book news, fun bookish posts with pictures to read then this is definitely the page for you. Trust me when I say you’ll get addicted.
There are even fun things to participate in such as pen pals, card exchanges for holidays, giveaways (because who doesn’t love those), book hauls etc. You name it they’ve got it. Also there are some really awesome DIY ideas! Like this one………….

A TBR jar! It’s super easy to make this and costs basically nothing. Seriously. I used an old candle jar to put my stars in. I get candles all the time, wondering what on earth to do with the jar afterwards. Throwing it away feels like a waste so I just melted the wax like this…….

  1. Fill small pot (big enough to hold candle jar) with about a cup of water.
  2. Boil the water.
  3. Place jar in boiling water (opening facing up of course) and watch as the wax melts.
  4. Using pot holders (so as not to burn yourself) remove the jar and empty the wax (into a tin or whatever you like).
  5. Wash the empty candle jar .

Then I dried the jar and started making stars like this…..

It’s incredibly easy and so much fun guys. If you have a large TBR, often find yourself wondering what to read next and are looking for a fun way to start narrowing that down then trust me when I say you have to try it! You could also do anything you want to the jar. Add some ribbon or glitter glue or heck even glue on some cute little cupcake erasers to the lid. The sky is the limit!

Well I just thought I would share that with you guys 🙂 check out the OCS on Facebook. You’ve got nothing to lose and so much to gain. Tons of stuff like this. It’s a really fun community. Much like WordPress here 🙂

I couldn’t link directly to the page because it’s a closed group. So I attached a link to my page, where I shared the group on a post 🙂 I figure that’s the next closest thing. Turns out you can’t even Google it, that’s how secret it is 😉
