The Black Cat Blue Sea Award

Hey guys! Way back in two thousand something (forgot what year exactly) I was nominated for this award by Sophie @Blame Chocolate. Sadly she has since taken a hiatus. Something I truly hope she is enjoying as we all know the pressures that can sometimes come with blogging and social media. When my blog was first started her’s was one of the original blogs I started following on here. You can still check out her blog. She has reviews, tags and more still up for your browsing leisure. In case you do decide to come back from hiatus, thank you Sophie! (Seriously one of my favorite girl names)

The Book Blogger Test Tag

It’s Friday! Woo! Another week has finally come to an end and thank goodness. I don’t know about all of you, but I can not wait to enjoy my two days off. I’m ridiculously ecstatic.
To celebrate I thought I would do something fun like a book tag 🙂
This is a tag I found on mylittlebookblog, check out the site when you get a chance. It’s a really cute book blog. So let’s get started!

What Are Your Top 3 Book Pet Hates (Peeves)?
1. Folding pages! Dog ears or what ever it is you want to call it. It may seem silly but I really can’t stand the idea and cringe every time someone suggests it. That is why I use book marks.

2. Buying a book, and hating it. I spend good money on books and get very excited to read them, only to be let down. I hate it when a book takes forever to get interesting. Makes me want to put it down and then reading it becomes a chore.
3. Being interrupted while reading. You see I’m doing something! No offense, but I really don’t care about the latest memes I don’t get anyway.

Describe Your Perfect Reading Spot
During Autumn, right under a tree who’s leaves are changing, in a beautiful little park. Of course it has to be sunny with a cloudless blue sky and a crisp breeze in the air. Oh and abuelita’s hot chocolate is a given.

Tell Us Three Book Confessions
1. Even though I hate pushing through boring books, I’ll do it anyway. Because I don’t like feeling that I abandoned a book and will hold on to the hope it will get better at some point.

2. I buy books based on their cover. I know I know, but lets be honest we all kind of do it at some point or another.

3. When I put new books on my shelves, I tell the other books to say hi and be nice. Because I want all my books to be friends.

When Was The Last Time You Cried During A Book?
The last book that made me emotional was Anna and the French Kiss. I remember reading it really late at night and she was so heart broken and frustrated with Ettiene. I started crying because I felt all her frustration. My boyfriend was kind of freaking out.

How Many Books Are On Your Bedside Table?
Just the one that I’m reading. Although I do have one in the drawer right beneath it.

What Is Your Favorite Snack To Eat While You’re Reading?
I have a variety of snacks. Mostly I like salty foods. Sunflower seeds, pickles, cheese its all chased down with a cold Pepsi or Vanilla Coke. I will indulge in the occasional brownie with some hot chocolate.

Name Three Books You Would Recommend Yo Everyone
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer, it’s a fan-tastic book! A cyborg version of Cinderella? Sounds strange but that’s seriously what makes it so good. It’s different.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I picked up the book on a whim one day when I had no idea what I was in the mood for. This book is one heck of an adventure. There is so much magic in it, in the acts in the different tents, in the clock! Months after I read it I still couldn’t stop thinking about it.

The Night Circus

I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max. This is really if you’re in the mood for a comedy. The guy is a huge jerk but at least he knows it. Which really makes the book even more funny.

So that’s it! I hope you enjoyed the tag. I want to nominate everyone 🙂 because tags are fun and no one should have to wait for a specific nomination to do one 😉

Happy Friday everyone!!!! ❤

This or That

I just felt like doing a book tag today 🙂 something fun. I got his tag from angiesbookblog, check out her blog when you get a chance. She does some really fun tags and other book related posts. I especially enjoyed her US Book Covers vs UK Book Covers post 🙂

Alright here we go!

Oooo….that’s a good question. I really enjoy stand alones like The Book Thief (one of my all time favorites). BUT! I don’t think I could do only stand alones. I love trilogies like Hunger Games. Trilogies it is!

There aren’t too many male authors that I’ve read. So it isn’t because I’m biased or anything of the sort, but I’m gonna have to go with Female Authors. They just get me.

Noooo. This question! On the one hand, all books all the time. On the other……Amazon has everything including books. Alright, it’s gonna be Amazon. I’d rather pay a little more sometimes in books and still be able to get any life essentials I might need. Ohh those Barnes and Noble exclusives though….

Vampire Diaries is a huge favorite show of mine. While I can appreciate how much longer it will last as a show, they sometimes go too far. You can tell when they’re running out of ideas and are just grasping for straws. The story stops making sense. I don’t want to see some of my favorite books become something like that.
Movies! I have chosen. With movies it’s kind of hit and miss too. At least there’s a chance they’ll remake it sometime in the future. Sort of like a do-over, a second chance if you will. Movies get remade sooner than TV shows do.

I have trouble reading only one chapter a day, five pages? I couldn’t do that if I tried! Five books per week!

I don’t really have the talent for writing. Although I greatly admire those who aspire to be writers and authors. Reading is a passion that has never gone away and I don’t ever see that changing. It’s who I am, it’s what people (friends, family, coworkers) know me by. I’m the book worm. If I could be a professional book reviewer that would truly be a dream come true.

I hope that doesn’t mean I can never ever reread my favorites again. Even at that risk I’m gonna have to go with new books I haven’t read before. I’ll always remember my favorite books. New books hold new adventures and new friends to make 🙂 there’s no way I would pass up that opportunity.

When I was little I wanted to grow up and be a Librarian. Which was weird when everyone else wanted to be Firefighters. I’m going with Librarian. There’s something about a Library, as if their portals themselves. The musty smell of books and pages, even old news papers……’s Heaven.

Recently I went through a stage where I was just tired of reading Fantasy books and needed something new. It was refreshing and now I have another favorite genre. Truthfully though I would rather just endure reading slumps than give up my love for Fantasy books. Just to be safe I’m gonna consider YA my favorite genre. (Gotta love those contemporaries.)

I don’t know what it is about e-books, but I have the hardest time reading them. I space out, day dream, get up to do chores………refill a glass of soda (five times), pet the dog. All before I’ve even finished one chapter! My eyes and my mind hate e-books.
Physical books have always appealed to me better. The feel of something sturdy in my hands, the brush of the pages when I turn them. They story just flows together and before I know it I’m half way through the book within the hour. Physical books all the way.

That’s it! I hope you enjoyed the tag 🙂 if you like this post feel free to follow me for more fun bookish posts.
Lastly I want to nominate EVERYONE! Each and every one of you. Personally I feel discouraged when I don’t receive nominations, like no one really notices me which is hard when you’re trying to reach out to others. Sometimes I work up the courage to just do a book tag anyway. So I hope some of you will decide to just do a tag for yourself 🙂 because you like it and because you have fun doing it. That’s really what these are all about. I’ve forgotten that, but I’m starting to remember.

The Sunshine Blogger Award!

Huge shout out to Teenbooklit101 for the nomination! Check out her awesome blog! She writes great book reviews, does fun tags and gives advice on book shopping 🙂 I’m really excited to do this tag and so happy that I got nominated! 🙂 Now let’s jump right into it!

  1. Thank the people/person who nominated you.
  2. Answer the questions from your nominator(s).
  3. Nominate eleven other bloggers and give them eleven questions

Teenbooklit101’s Questions:

Who would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?
I might regret this answer if I’m ever actually stranded on a deserted island but, I would probably choose my sister. She would in no way help us get off the island, but we have the BEST time together! We’re basically Lorelai and Rory, only were not huge feminists.

If you could do anything you wanted right now, what would it be?
Catch a Dragonite! Everyone, myself included, is currently obsessed over the new Pokemon Go game that has come out. Being that it was my childhood dream to have real live Pokemon, this app was on my phone the moment I heard it was out on. Dragonite was always my favorite Pokemon. I need one!

If money was no object, what would you do all day?
Build Belle’s library (my dream library) to have as my own. Also I’d visit every Disney park, every single time I felt like it!

Where do you most want to travel, but have never been?
Japan. Specifically my the town where my best friend lives because I really miss her. But mostly just Japan in general. Ohh how those cherry blossoms are calling my name. I swear I can hear them.

What is your favorite memory?
My favorite memory? My heart automatically goes to a summer day, years back when I was about 7, spent with my sister and my brother. We spent summers at my dad’s. I can

Who remembers this game?

remember sitting on my sisters lap in one of those floor chairs that rock. Watching MTV (before it became so provocative) and all our favorite music videos! (i.e. Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Mya, Aaliyah) All while eating SpaghettiOs! And playing Trouble of course!

Who is your favorite author?
Recently Marrisa Meyer and Victoria Aveyard. I am in LOVE with the Lunar Chronicles and the Red Queen series has been helping me kind of get over my LC hangover.

What is your favorite book?
I hate this question!!!! Why does it exist? That’s like asking who’s your favorite person. It’s so hard to answer! I guess if I have to pick one it would be Pride and Prejudice. Along side that is the Harry Potter series.

What is/was your favorite subject at school?
Some people may think me a huge nerd for this but History and English were not only my best subjects but also my favorite subjects. I loved doing homework and taking tests. Spelling was the best! I drove my family crazy with practice tests.

What has been your biggest challenge?
Patience! There are a lot of things in life that just don’t seem fair, and waiting for things to go your way is actually really hard. But totally worth it once I learned to let go and just be patient.

EBook or Physical Book?
Physical book! Hands down. I’m struggling so hard to read 3 e-books right now. I read twice as slow electronically than I do when I have physical pages to turn. I’m just a weirdo like that. My mind dislikes e-books that much.

When and why did you start blogging?
I actually started blogging around 2012 but had no real direction. I tried writing, photography and even poetry. All of which failed epicly. This year it finally hit me, books! I love them, love to read about them and talk about them. It’s been my highest passion since I learned how to read. Instant light bulb. I’ll be a book blogger 🙂 share everything I love about books and help create a bigger buzz about them because lets face it, sometimes they are under appreciated. What better way to be involved in the book community? And I have to say, since I decided this I’ve been so happy.

My Questions:

  1. What are your favorite kind of book blog posts?
  2. What movie are you just itching to watch right now?
  3. What is your reading ritual?
  4. If you could live in one of your favorite T.V. shows, as a main character, what T.V. show would it be?
  5. What is a book series you don’t see yourself finishing? Why?
  6. Name a book genre you couldn’t get into.
  7. What is the next book you’re most anticipating to be released?
  8. If you could go on a magic carpet ride, who would you go with and where would you go?
  9. How do you really feel about Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?
  10. What is your animal spirit?
  11. For the rest of your life you can only watch the movie but you can never read the book, or you can read the book but you can never watch the movie……which do you choose?

I nominate;

That’s my book tag! I hope you enjoyed it. Leave comments down below and a link to your post if you decide to do the tag so I can check it out! 🙂 If you like this post follow me here on wordpress for more 🙂

Opposite Books Tag!

Hey guys! Since I started getting more active on this blog I’ve really been wanting to do a Book Tag but have yet to be tagged by another blogger. So I mischievously decided to take matters into my own hands. (heh heh heh)
I found this tag on Dream Land Book Blog while looking for fun tags to do. So thank you very much for the opportunity to do this tag Dream Land!

The idea is to answer questions about opposites. So without further ado I’d like to just get right into it!

  1.  First book in your collection/Last book you bought.

Is it just me, or does he look like Dumbledore???

Pretty sure the oldest book that I have on my shelf is The Giver by Lois Lowry. Funny story, I was a freshman in high school and my then boyfriend was assigned to read this for summer school. He hated books. I generously offered to read it for him, fell in love at first chapter. I then kept the book and have had it ever since. It’s one of my favorite books to date 🙂 p.s. I did not like the movie.

Newest books! I just recently bought (and have yet to do a book haul post) The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry, A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston and Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard. I’m so excited to read these books! They look beautiful on my shelf, I’m in love.

  2. A cheap book/An expensive book.
Here in town we have a used book store that I love to visit once a month. The sales clerk and I are basically best pals now. Is it sad that she knows me by name? There I found a great copy (perfect condition) of Johnn Steinbeck‘s The Red Pony for $2.00! It was a steal 😉
The most expensive book I own is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I stood in line for the midnight release and paid extra not only for a special hard copy but a signed copy. It cost me about $40-50 bucks if I remember correctly. Rather it cost my mom who was nice enough to buy me books back then.
  3. A book with a male protagonist/One with a female protagonist.
Had to put a little thought into this because. I decided to go with one of the first books with a male protagonist that I really enjoyed and that is Eragon by Christopher Paolini! I DID actually love the movie and was really sad it didn’t get more credit or even a sequal.
No surprise here I’m gonna go with Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer! I love this series so much. I really liked Cinder’s character. She’s very strong, smart and quick and also very dedicated.
  4. A book you read fast/One that took you long to read.
    If I Stay
If I Stay by Gayle Forman. After watching the movie I had this ginormous urge to buy this book and read it. It was a breeze to get through. Took me a day and a half only because I had to sleep and work.
This may come as a shock and disappointment to some but I have to say my longest read was City Of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I just couldn’t get into this darn book! It took me months to read and finally I had to get the audio book just to cross it off my TBR.
  5. Pretty cover/Ugly cover.
The Love That Split The World! This cover is so colorful and vivid. It’s pretty brilliant that the girl on this cover is splitting the night sky into day. I can’t wait to read this.
For ugly cover I’m gonna have to go with the Succubus On Top by Richelle Mead. This was a little disappointing for me as I love love love this author. The Georgina Kincaid  series was great! The plot to each book and the writing were beautifully written. They definitely could have done something more with the covers though.
  6. A national book/An international book.
Blue is for Nightmares by Laurie Faria Stolarz. These books take place here in the States. I feel like these books have long since been forgotten but they’re actually pretty good. If you like books about witches 😉
Harry Potter! Everyone knows these all take place in London, England and these books are loved world wide 😉 because J.K. Rowling is just that good.
  7. A thin book/A thick book.
There was a close tie for this one but I decided to go with John Steinbeck’s, The Pearl at 90 pages. It’s the thinnest book I own!
This was an easy one! Again I look to the Lunar Chronicles’ Winter with a whopping 823 pages. I actually had to invest in the audio book to help me get through it because I wasn’t reading it fast enough for my own excitement.
  8. Fiction book/Non-fiction book.
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. Regardless of what the movie’s have led others to believe this is actually only a singular book, not a trilogy. Tolkien did such a phenomenal job creating a whole new world that everyone has come to love.
There is one, and only one book in my house that is Non-Fiction. Recommended to me by a friend in high school and that is I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max. When I first picked it up I hated it, I thought wow this guy is sick and how is he alive? A few months later I took a second look realizing I judged too harshly and wouldn’t ya know it…..I loved it. It’s funny and gross and ridiculous. A must read.
  9. Very (way too) romantic book/Action book.
Just One Day by Gayle Forman. Honestly I wasn’t a huge fan of this book and wanted to quit less than half way through it. It’s probably the most “romancy” book I’ve read. Revolving strictly around a love story that takes place in Europe when a young girl is traveling abroad with her best friend for the summer. It wasn’t so much the story I didn’t like per se, it was more the writing? Maybe the character? I didn’t like how obsessed she was over someone she knew for ONE day. Come on now. The whole book just seemed to go by very slowly and was off putting.
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead! I LOVED this series. Funnily enough I actually picked up these books because at the time I needed something to read wile I waited for the next Twilight book to come out. Ironically I liked these books so much more than the Twilight series. Then found myself waiting around for the next VA book to come out. There was more action and less lovey dovey scenes. It kept my interest and peaked my excitement with every book. Richelle Mead quickly became one of my top favorite authors.
  10. A book that made you happy/One that made you sad

I actually own this  1945 edition so I chose this picture for the post.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, my number one favorite book and a prized possession. Everything about this book had me cooing over it as though it were a baby cat. It even has a happy ending for both sisters! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve read this.

Without a second thought here I’m gonna go with The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Another one of my all time favs. This is the most tear jerking book I own.I cried like a baby, for everything in the story. For Rudy, for Hans, for Max, Liesel and even her mother! Agh! It was amazing.

Just for funsies I’d like to nominate a few bloggers for this tag.

Illuminated Literation

And that is my first book tag ladies and gentlemen and book worms 😉 let me know in the comments down below how I did. I hope you decide to do this book tag yourself if you haven’t yet. Hope you have as much fun doing this as I did 🙂 please leave a link to your post or a ping back so I can check it out. I’d love to see what lists you come up with.
