What Are You Reading Wednesday

Don’t you love Wednesdays? It’s the second most perfect day of the week in my opinion. For one it’s usually my one day off, it falls right in the middle of the week which means it’s a great time to take a break or catch up on all I’ve been meaning to do. Also, Wednesday’s tend to be pretty sunny here in my neck of the woods.

What I’m Reading:

Last week I picked up a biography and shared a book haul with you guys. Now don’t kill me but I haven’t finished the Disney biography yet (working on it I swear). However! With so many beautiful new contemporaries waiting for me I couldn’t let them down. This week I picked up,

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

If you don’t know what this is about let me a do a tiny recap of the blurb. Madeline has a disease. This particular disease makes it impossible for her to go anywhere but the confines of her humble abode. Now she has some new neighbors. It doesn’t take long before her and Olly, an interesting young man who wears all black, become friends. Maddy and Olly begin to fall for one another.
What’s going to happen? Can they even have any kind of relationship? She’s practically allergic to the whole world after all.
That doesn’t seem to be stopping her and it certainly doesn’t seem to put much of a damper on her spirits.
I am loving everything about this book so far. It’s chapters don’t even feel like chapters. They only consist of about 2-3 pages. The illustrations alone keep your eyes glued to the book the whole time. I can already see why it’s gotten so many great reviews. I can’t wait to see the movie you guys.
If you’ve read this book let me know what you thought of it in the comments.

Did you love it, did it make you cry or swoon? How excited are you for the movie next month?

What I’m Watching:

13 Reasons Why
Based on the book by Jas Asher

EVERYONE is talking about this show. If you haven’t heard of this show or this book then where have you been???
As someone who read this book in high school I already knew what was coming when they announced the T.V series. Or so I thought. Honesty time; I never finished the book. It was horribly depressing!!! WHY would anyone want to read that? Also it was very droll and dry.
Well if the book had been anything like the show I might have finished it. Heck I might have even kept it and re-read it. If you’re like me and hated the book, DNF’d it or just didn’t bother with it then don’t worry.
This show is nothing like it. Already I’ve cried a total of 3 times. I’ve gotten several coworkers hooked on it and even gotten my sister hooked. She’s actually finished with it, leaving me way in the dust.
Warning: This show may cause triggers for anyone who has dealt with depression, sexual assault or thoughts of suicide.
Even if you haven’t experienced any of this first hand but have had friends/family who were affected by these circumstances, it may still be hard to watch. There is an episode that’s a little more graphic than I’d like it to be. So if you do decide to watch this, please be careful guys and be mindful.

What I’m Listening To:

How fun was this movie?! The songs are stuck in my head but I’m not really in a hurry to get them out.

For all my gamers out there, my friend Hunter Dragoon is actually creating his own game! He’s doing a pretty awesome job too. You can check out his progress as he shares it with us over on his YouTube Channel Here. I’m also going to share his latest video with you…

So what do you think? Looks pretty fun right? 😉 I’m actually very proud at how far he’s gotten on it. I love talking to him about the new things he’s adding. Personally I can’t wait until he’s finished so I can play this game! It has a very classic feel to it and I love that.

Friday Funday!

I have a book haul for you today 🙂 it’s been quite a while since I did one of these. Other than my subscription to Owlcrate, I don’t normally go out and buy too many books. It’s actually been about three or four months since I splurged. Man does it feel good though when that package arrives at your front door. Am I right?
Recently BookOutlet had a great sale going on. Free shipping!!! So you can bet I sure took advantage of that. As much as I could without feeling guilty. Here’s what I got………..oh and have I mentioned that I’ve been in a huge contemporary mood lately?

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

For a long time now I’ve been wanting to read this. With the movie coming out in May what better opportunity? I’ve been told to keep a box of tissues near by for this one so I’m wondering what I’m getting myself into here.

Isla and The Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

Several months ago I got the second book to this trilogy, to which I still haven’t read (shame), so why not get the last one? The only thing is that I didn’t realize I had gotten the hardback of this 😦 the other two are paperback. Sooo I feel as though I have slight dilemma on my hands. They don’t match. This will actually bother me.

Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch

Ok ok I maaay have gotten this one because the cover has always caught my eye. It’s so cute! The blurb sounds good too though. It’s been a long time since I read a book that took me to Italy 😉

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

When We Collided by Emery Lord

Jackaby by William Ritter

Yes! Pretty happy about this. After watching Sherlock I’ve been wanting to read a Sherlock related book. Now I could just get the classic complete series or something easy like that but this seems a little bit more…….modern. Plus it seems to be a big hit. Can’t wait to start reading this one.

Because You’ll Never Meet Me by Leah Thomas

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

I keep seeing this series everywhere. On blogs, on youtube, on Goodreads and of course at the stores. There’s been a lot of good reviews going around about this series. It’s one of those books that catches your eye. Really looking forward to finding out what the hype is about here.

Detours, Do-Overs, and Dares Box set

Since You’ve Been Gone
Second Chance Summer
Amy & Rogers Epic Detour

All by Morgan Matson

I seriously feel like this was a steal. It’s three really good contemporaries for 8 bucks! I’ve picked up each and every one of these on my trips to B&N but have never purchased them, before now. Now I have all three!!!!

Ahhhh!!! So many promising books ❤ I honestly don’t know which one to read first. Each one of these has been on my list for such a long time that, I don’t know where to start! I’m also kind of just excited to have them and see them on my shelves. Silly I know.

Have you read any of these books? If so which one do you recommend get bumped up in the list? Let me know 😉

What Are You Reading Wednesday

For the past couple of weeks I’ve actually been really struggling to read Caraval. Don’t get me wrong. I do like the story so far. To be completely honest though it is not holding my attention. To it’s credit I don’t believe it’s the books fault. For a long time now my mind has been craving a good contemporary.
So suffice it to say that Caraval has officially been shelved, for now. This week I’ve picked up a few books from the Library (yes, I’m actually utilizing that card I got years back) and I’m also expecting a big box from USPS 😉 Until then, here’s what I just cracked open today and what I’m up to this week………..

What I’m Reading:

Walt Disney
The Triumph of the American Imagination by Neal Gabler

In anticipation of our upcoming trip to Disney World ❤ I’ve decided to do quite a bit of fun research. Not only have I been a humongous nerd when it comes to everything Disney since infancy, I’ve also been a humongous fan of the man behind the mouse himself. Walt Disney’s legacy is so incredibly inspiring. I can’t tell you how many web pages I’ve read on Walt. Finally I’ve gotten my hands on a really good sized biography. I kept running into 100 paged books thinking they just aren’t in depth enough. I’m looking for a book that can tell me something about Walt that I don’t already know. I want to really know the man who made The Happiest Place On Earth possible.
Well……..I’ve got a whopper compared to those other books. This one sits at a hearty 633 pages. Not including the extra 208 pages of appendix and index at the back.

What I’m Watching:

Rogue One

I’m halfway through this. I stopped because it was 12 am and my eyes were not having it. This movie so far………mmmm, I’m still waiting for it to get interesting.

Who doesn’t love a good dog movie am I right? Watched this and LOVED it! Loved a little more thanks to Rosko ❤ my new German Shepherd.

What I’m Listening To:

Every year between October and December I tell myself I’m going to re-watch this movie. Because it’s beautiful, it’s powerful and helloooo it’s a musical.
Every year, I some how never find the time to actually sit down and watch it. It’s been ohhh…………seven years? Give or a take. I LOVED this movie in high school. It was our movie. It epitomized the friendships I had and the way we celebrated life in everything we did. That time is long gone now. Adulthood has comfortably settled in it’s place and life is some how, slower. Exiting but in a way that seems more calm and collected. More mature. Who knows, maybe subconsciously I haven’t felt like strolling down memory lane and I look for excuses not to watch it.
No matter what time of the year it is though, you can always find me listening and singing along to every word of this musical

What are you up to this week? 😉

Popular YA Books I Secretly Don’t Want To Read

Hey guuuys! Long time no blog huh? Just wanted to give you a quick update on what I’ve been up to before I jump into the post.

A couple weeks ago I fostered some lost poodles, very cute and friendly ladies. It made me realize something, I really miss having a dog. Someone to be there when I get home, someone to go on walks with, someone to pet and cuddle. Someone to take care of So after the dogs were gone I decided to go to the shelter and just take a look.

What I saw was of course incredibly heart breaking. So many dogs, all needing someone to take them home and care for them and love them. One dog, with the saddest pair of dark brown eyes caught my attention. Where the other dogs barked at my intrusion he just stared at me, head down right where he way laying. Quiet yet intrigued. (At least that’s what his slight tail wagging told me.)

I did a meet and greet with him, to see if maybe we would be a good fit for each other. He was perfect. Friendly yet timid, trusting but cautious, playful but not overly hyper and he wasn’t a barker. He wasn’t even a jumper! I was in love. For two days I missed him and couldn’t stop picturing his face. So I did what any other person would do……….I went back and adopted him ❤

Today I’m the proud proud owner of a 3 year old very handsome black German Shepherd. He keeps me more than occupied on my days off and when I get home from work. I almost feel as though I’m constantly babysitting. My cat is so independent that she doesn’t need much. Somewhere down the line I obviously got used to that. It’s nice to be needed now. Anyway I’d like you all to meet…………

It’s only been about a week that we’ve had him so he’s still pretty skinny. I’m hoping to see that start to change very soon. Other than that he is a happy camper. With a huge backyard all to himself and two new parents to spoil him how he could he not be? I do feel bad thinking that someone somewhere must have been missing him. The shelter had him for a couple of weeks and said no one came to look for him. They put him on social media and checked for a chip but……nothing. I only wish his previous family, if he even had one, could know that he is being well looked after.

OK! Since it’s been a while I wanted to do something fun. I decided to do my own Top Ten today. Here’a list of some very popular books that I don’t really have an interest in reading. A lot of these books have gotten so much hype, so hopefully no one shames me for this.

  1. Six of Crows

  2. The Selection Series

  9. The Raven Cycle

Ah, I can almost feel the collective gasps and sighs. I know I know, how do those not sound interesting??? I don’t know, they just don’t. Not to me.

Sometimes I look up these books and think “eh, I could give it a try.” Except that there are just so many other books I would rather be reading. I love that so many people have enjoyed these. I love reading the reviews. I can get by on just that. It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if someone told me all about these books, including spoilers. Because chances are I will never read them.

What about you guys? Are there any popular YA books that you secretly don’t want to read? Maybe there’s a book on this list that you actually really loved and think I should reconsider it. I’m all ears if you want to tell me how good it is 🙂 I might consider giving it a chance. A real chance.
